Jenny runs great write-ins. In general she is a source of joy and writing encouragement and rightfully attracts people to her. So, yesterday’s write-in was both fun and productive. Also Jaclyn introduced us to the NaNo Pirates Discord which has a nice sprinting function. I will be making more use of that as time goes by.
Our Memphis Writers meeting was small, but we also got in some good writing during it. I ended up with about 800 words and phrases set in my current story describing things my characters feel that I can use to add texture to the story. Between Jenny’s write-in and the Memphis Writers meeting I ended up adding 2551 words yesterday.
I am rereading Chris Fox’s 5,000 Words An Hour: Write Faster, Write Smarter. This is my third reading of it. My first reading I just thought it was impossible. On my second, I thought he had some good ideas that I tried to implement but suspected that I was just too slow to make it work. On this third reading I’m not convinced by everything he says but I’m going to try some of his exercises this month.
I write about 500 words an hour normally. If I could write 2,500 good words every day regularly, I think I could achieve my goals more easily. So that is the goal. I’m getting closer to it this year. I’ve had several 2,000 word days and a few crazy 3,000-4,000 word days. As I sprinted with the NaNo pirates I realized that part of my problem is just that I am a slow typist. That is surely something I can work on.
Today I will mix writing with some critical kitchen cleaning. I have a few days before the next write-in on Tuesday. I’m going to make the most of my quiet time at home to produce as much as I can.
