Today is a good day. As noted, 4thewords is back to working and I’m feeling a bit less fraught. One of my favorite books of this year, Witchmark, by C.L. Polk was just featured by the New York Times as one of the best new fantasy novels of the year. I recommend that you check it out. Since I’ve already reviewed the book on Goodreads, I’m not going to do it here except to say that it is a tasty treat to read.
C.L. Polk also shared her 5-4-3-2-1 Technique for how to get good descriptions with the Lady Astronaut Club today by pointing us to her blog post How to Brainstorm Scene Location Details from a Panic-stopping Technique. I practiced with it today to get some good descriptions for Tzipporah’s visit to Rueben’s house and it works quite well. If you are a writer, I recommend that you check it out.
My focus today was on my historical novel. I worked on Chapter 2 using C.L. Polk’s technique to make the descriptions a bit richer.
This weekend I will finish one short story and finish creating the list of writers I recommend to follow on Twitter I promised this to my writers group and I will deliver it on Monday.
Today marks my ninth day eating well, which is to say, eating unprocessed vegetables, fruits, grains, and beans. It’s been surprisingly easy. I am desperately afraid that if I so much as touch a bit of chocolate that I will be like Odysseus’ crew amongst the Lotus Eaters and will be unable to stop eating it, foreswearing all good things to my addiction. Nonetheless, my birthday is coming and I plan to have two truffles. Perhaps afterwards my husband will have to bind me to my writing desk like Odysseus’s men had to be lashed to their rowing benches. Or he may choose a more modern technique: sending me to Lotus Eaters Anonymous. Pray for me, friends.
